How do I protect my account?

HELP CONTENT

Firstly, it is imperative that you have a good password. A good password is one that uses alpha numeric keys but not so good that you have trouble remembering what they are!

Try methods like taking the initials of your three best friends and a number (other than a birth date) that you remember easily.

NEVER share your password with anyone!

Bidbuysell will never ask you in email for passwords. If you ever receive email asking you to enter any of your personal information, send a copy of the email to us!

If you suspect that someone is accessing your account, change your password immediately and contact us.

Protection claim - coverage provided (Fraud)
Bidbuysell will implement the Buyer Protection Program in cases of fraud.

From this program, members may claim up to $400 (less $25 costs) if the item they have bought is never received or is grossly unlike what they expected it to be. This applies to all auctions, however in Dutch auctions items are always included as one item.

You may not utilise the Buyer Protection Program if you have:

  • Paid for the item in cash
  • Used PayPal to pay for the item. (PayPal offers its own reimbursement service)
  • The item is not particularly different from what was described in the listing.
  • The value of the item is (or the combined cost of items in the case of Multiple Listing (Dutch) Auctions) less than $25

You may utilise the Buyer Protection Program if:

  • The item is allowed to be listed on Bidbuysell and has a value greater than $25
  • Payment was made to the seller and the item has not been received
  • You have made no more than three claims in one year previously
  • You membership was clear of strikes and suspensions at the time

Protection claim - How to file (Fraud)
Bidbuysell offers a Purchase Protection Program for buyers who have made a purchase on bidbuysell but the item either does not arrive or is in a great way, nothing like the item was described.

    The program has four steps.

Step 1. Complete the Item Not Received/Not as Described form. Once the form is completed, close the dispute by selecting 'end communication with seller'. If eligible, you will be sent a link to the Purchase Protection Program claim form.

Step 2. Complete and submit the online Purchase Protection Program claim form. From My Bidbuysell, go to the 'Disputes' link and from their click on the type of dispute relevant to what you are experiencing. On the 'View Dispute' page, go to the Purchase Protection claim form and complete it. Once you are satisfied with its detail, click on 'Submit'. You will receive an automated response confirming receipt of your claim form within 3 days. If you do not, contact Bidbuysell claims administration.

Step 3. Submit Proof of Payment
Within a two week time frame, you maybe contacted by Bidbuysell administration and asked to submit proof that you have paid for the item under investigation.

This may be done in several ways:

  • A photocopy of the back and front of a money order or bank or personal cheque.
  • If by credit card (either by card or through PayPal), you will need proof of denial of payment, which is usually in the form of a letter from your credit card company.

Step 4. Submit Letter of Authenticity.
A Bidbuysell claims administrator may contact you and ask for a Letter of Authenticity or Appraisal. This letter must be written on company letterhead and must include all contact details of the authenticator. It may be faxed or emailed to Bidbuysell.

Bidbuysell will communicate with you during the claim investigation and it is vital that you reply to any emails promptly. Failure to do this could result in the claim investigation being closed.
    Protection Programs
Bidbuysell offers a number of programs for buyers and sellers to protect their interests while using the site.
    These include:

  • Bidbuysell buyer protection program
  • Item not received or significantly not as described
  • The opportunity to use an Escrow service for costly items. Bidbuysell recommends www.escrow.com
  • Square trade dispute handling

    Proxy bidding
Bidbuysell's proxy bidding takes the hassle out of bidding.
If there's an item that you particularly like, simply enter the maximum price you would be prepared to pay for the item.
Then, each time someone else bids on the item, Bidbuysell's proxy bidder will increase your bid on your behalf until (or if) bids reach the maximum amount you entered.

    For example:
A watch is listed on Bidbuysell that you really want.
If the starting bid is $5 and you are prepared to pay $50, bid $50.
The proxy bidder will then make an increment bid on your behalf until (or if) bids reach your maximum amount.
If the next highest bid to you is $22, then you will pay only slightly over $22 for the item!
